Enable all "active content" so Tb-Scout v2.0 can function
You may get this "security warning" the first time you try to open Tb-Scout v2.0, in which you are advised that some "active content" has been disabled. Tb-Scout v2.0, as a Microsoft Access application, includes "active content", that is, additional internal functionality such as programming modules, functions, macros, and data connections. By the way, this also applies to other Office documents like Excel, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. As an SDL AppStore application, Tb-Scout v2.0 has been already vetted by the SDL AppStore and you can rest assured that the content can be safely enabled.
- The first step is to close the initial form by clicking the X button.
- You can go ahead and click the "Enable Content" button right away. This will make Tb-Scout v2.0 a trusted document. When you reopen the application, the warning message bar will not appear again.
- However, before proceeding, if you want to learn more about this procedure, click the label.
If you clicked 3, above, then you will get to the message below:
You can either go to your own "Trust Center Settings" or jump directly to a Microsoft support page to learn more. If you want to continue, click "Enable Content" which will take you to:
Here you may want to choose "Enable All Content", which is the same as step 2, above.
Tb-Scout v2.0 represents content from a trustworthy source
There is another type of warning message, shown below, that you may see when you try to start Tb-Scout v2.0 and it is also related to the issues discussed above.
As explained, it is safe to open Tb-Scout v2.0 in your computer. It does not contain unsafe content. This type of message is generic. In order to avoid this message, the developer of Tb-Scout v2.0 would have to purchase a digital certificate from a third-party certificate authority (CA), a cost that is not justified and at the same time an unnecessary investment. Once you click the [Open] button to start the application, this message may not show up again, although it may continue to show up in some cases. It all depends on the configuration of your computer and especially on the Microsoft Office set up.
The message reads:
"Microsoft Access Security Notice
A potential security concern has been
identified.
Warning: It is not possible to determine that this
content came from a trustworthy source. You should leave this content
disabled unless the content provides critical functionality and you
trust its source.
File Path: [Location of Tb-Scout v2.0]
This
file might contain unsafe content that could harm your computer. Do
you want to open this file or cancel the operation?"
However, you can always trust this file, already vetted by the SDL AppStore, and click [Open].
